Farm Days

Woodlawn is Maryland’s first farm, established in 1634. This fall, with the support of a USDA Rural Development Business Grant, we open up this historic farm during the week, Tuesday - Thursday, for individual walks and workplaces, farming and skill practicums, educational workshops and community activities. There are 3 designated workplaces, 2 weekly workshops, and several of us who support the Slack Works Project under the auspices of our USDA Grant.

Wednesday October and November 4:00-7:00pm are the Slack Farms Workshops which introduces local farm skills and outdoor basics including trail maintenance, forest management, wine and brew making, wallpapering, basic carpentry and how to set up your own farm toolkit, landscape concepts and design, natural and ornamental floral arrangement, and basic husbandry for our Tidewater region. Guest speakers will be here from near and far, and participation in these events is available at member and non-member fees. The list of Fall 2020 Workshops is posted at Farm Workshops.

Join us:

  • 8 am - 6 pm Tuesday through Thursday at workspaces at the Tidewater Barn, Courtyard and Waterside lawn, and Woodlawn Manor House.

  • Coffee, Tea, snacks and DIY Charcuterie Platters are provided for Slack Farm Members during the day.

  • 5 pm - 6 pm Wine Tastings in the Courtyard, en plain air, to provide social time safely and happily when the day’s work is done. And yes, bring the kids and pets for family time amidst delicious teas, water, lemonade & eventually hot chocolate as days shorten and brisk air arrives.
